Apprentice SHEQ Officer – Wath upon Dearne, South Yorkshire

Equans is looking for an Apprentice SHEQ Officer to join our team on a 2 year fixed term basis. This is a full time role working 40 hours per week. On offer is apprentice wage and benefits package.

General Overview

The role will develop into a fully trained SHEQ Advisor through the Safety, Health and Environment Technician Level 3 Apprenticeship. The apprentice will be office based and expected to travel by their own means within the employer’s operating area.

Responsibilities
  • Work with the management and delivery teams to advise on statutory health, safety and environmental requirements as they affect the company’s operations.
  • Assist in developing, reviewing and checking the implementation of safe systems of work, investigate accidents, analyse data and present findings to the management team.
  • Engage with all aspects of the organisation to support a culture that ensures everyone is able to return home unharmed every day.
  • Understand the moral reasons for good safety, health and environmental practices, including how a SHE management system works and the range of standards a typical HSE professional would be involved with.
  • Learn about statutory health, safety and environmental legislation and associated guidance and information applicable to the working environment.
  • Identify, evaluate and control hazards relevant to the workplace.
  • Assist the Senior SHEQ Advisor in delivering SHEQ project work, including site inspections and audits.
  • Ensure that standards and quality of work produced are in accordance with best practice and fit for purpose.

Qualifications and Requirements
  • Must be dependable and attend work/college without exception.
  • Minimum of 2 A-levels or equivalent qualification.
  • Able to communicate effectively in both written and spoken communication.
  • Enthusiastic and self-motivated.
  • Able to work with a diverse range of people, both alone and as part of a team.
  • Confident and able to challenge behaviour that is inconsistent with a positive SHE culture.
  • Reliable, professional attitude and approach to work.
  • Demonstrate an eye for detail and commitment to delivering excellent standards.
  • Computer literate in MS Office.
