Aircraft Performance Engineer

Our client, a dynamic aerospace engineering firm, is seeking an experienced Aircraft Performance Engineer to join their team in Paarl, Western Cape . This role is crucial for optimizing aircraft operational efficiency, fuel economy, and flight planning. You will be responsible for analyzing flight data, developing performance models, and providing recommendations to flight operations and engineering departments. This hybrid position combines essential on-site work for collaborative projects and data integration with remote capabilities for in-depth analysis and reporting.

• Develop, validate, and refine aircraft performance models for various aircraft types.
• Analyze flight operational data to identify trends, inefficiencies, and areas for improvement.
• Calculate and optimize flight parameters such as fuel burn, climb rates, and cruise speeds.
• Develop flight planning tools and assist flight operations in creating optimal flight paths.
• Conduct performance testing and evaluation during flight tests.
• Collaborate with aerodynamics, propulsion, and systems engineers to ensure integrated performance solutions.
• Prepare detailed reports and presentations on aircraft performance findings and recommendations.
• Ensure adherence to aviation regulations and airworthiness standards related to aircraft performance.
• Troubleshoot performance-related issues encountered during flight operations.
• Stay abreast of the latest advancements in aircraft performance technology and methodologies.

• Master's degree or PhD in Aerospace Engineering or a related field with a specialization in performance or aerodynamics.
• Minimum of 6 years of experience in aircraft performance engineering or a closely related role.
• Strong theoretical knowledge of aerodynamics, thermodynamics, and flight mechanics.
• Proficiency in performance modeling software and tools (e.g., PROOSIS, Flight Gear).
• Experience with flight data analysis software and techniques.
• Familiarity with MATLAB, Python, or similar programming/scripting languages for data analysis.
• Excellent analytical, quantitative, and problem-solving skills.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team.
• Experience in a hybrid work environment, managing both on-site and remote tasks.
• Knowledge of international aviation regulations related to performance is a plus.
• Based in or willing to relocate to the Paarl, Western Cape region.
