Civil Engineer - Transportation Planning

Our client, a respected engineering firm specializing in urban planning and transportation infrastructure, is seeking a skilled Civil Engineer for their office in Paarl, Western Cape . This role focuses on the planning, analysis, and design of transportation systems, including road networks, intersections, and public transport facilities. You will contribute to projects that shape the future mobility of the region. The position operates on a hybrid model, promoting collaboration while offering flexibility.

The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of traffic engineering principles, transportation modeling, and project coordination. • Conduct traffic impact assessments and develop transportation planning studies for development projects.
• Design road layouts, intersection improvements, and traffic control measures.
• Develop and utilize transportation modeling software to analyze traffic flow, capacity, and network performance.
• Coordinate with municipal authorities, urban planners, and other stakeholders to ensure integrated project development.
• Prepare technical reports, proposals, and presentations related to transportation projects.
• Assist in the preparation of construction drawings and specifications for transportation infrastructure.
• Review existing infrastructure and identify areas for improvement and optimization.
• Ensure designs comply with relevant standards and regulations (e.g., SANS, municipal guidelines).
• Manage project tasks, timelines, and deliverables in collaboration with project managers.
• Stay informed about advancements in transportation engineering and planning techniques.

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering with a specialization or strong interest in Transportation Engineering.
• Professional Engineer (Pr.Eng) or Candidate Engineer (Pr.Eng) registration with ECSA is required.
• A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in transportation planning, traffic engineering, or road design.
• Proficiency in traffic analysis and modeling software (e.g., VISSIM, SIDRA INTERSECTION, TransCAD) is highly desirable.
• Solid understanding of traffic engineering principles, road design standards, and urban planning concepts.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and report-writing skills.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills for effective collaboration and stakeholder engagement.
• Ability to work effectively in a hybrid environment, balancing office-based teamwork with remote task completion.
• Familiarity with the Western Cape region and its transportation challenges is an advantage.
• A valid driver's license is necessary for site visits and meetings within the Paarl, Western Cape area.
