Grossing Technician - PRN

The Grossing Technician’s main responsibility is accessioning, documenting and preparing biopsies in the pathology laboratory.
Responsibilities/Duties/Functions/Tasks- Provide back up for Lab Assistant duties
- Gross, embed, and stain tissue according to designated procedures
- Complete assigned workload within prescribed time limit
- Prepare reagents for tissue processing and routine slide staining
- Maintain legible, accurate complete logs and record of testing
- Distributing slides to pathologists
- Perform routine maintenance and cleaning of equipment
- Troubleshoot procedures and instrumentation
- Ensure all corporate safety, quality control and quality assurance standards are met
- Ensure compliance with all local, federal, CLIA and CAP regulations
- Maintain a clean and well-organized work area
- Other duties, as assigned
- High school diploma or equivalent required AND
- Associate’s degree in science or equivalent science education is required to meet CLIA requirements for high complexity testing.
One (1) year experience in laboratory setting preferred.

- Frequently required to stand, walk, and sit for extended periods of time.
- Use of hands to finger, handle, feel objects, tools or controls.
- Reach with hands and arms
- Occasionally climb stairs, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.
- Constantly talk, hear and smell.
- Frequently lift 10 pounds and occasionally lift or move 25 to 50 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
This role routinely involves standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. Also, laboratory equipment is used daily.
Work EnvironmentThis job operates in professional laboratory environments. Frequent exposure to toxic/caustic chemicals, moving/mechanical parts, sharp objects, blood or body fluids, communicable diseases, computer monitors, repetitive motions. Local travel in the region may be required to another location as needed.
