Position Summary

We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Surgical First Assistant to join our surgical team. The ideal candidate will work directly with surgeons to provide hands-on support before, during, and after surgical procedures. This role is vital in ensuring the safety, efficiency, and effectiveness of operative care.

Responsibilities
  • Assist the surgeon during operative procedures, including tissue handling, exposure, suctioning, and suturing
  • Collaborate with the surgical team to prepare the operating room, including sterilizing instruments and ensuring all necessary equipment is available
  • Provide hemostasis through clamping, ligating, or cauterizing vessels
  • Close incisions using sutures, staples, or adhesives under direction of the surgeon
  • Monitor patient condition and respond to any changes in the surgical environment
  • Uphold strict adherence to sterile techniques and infection control standards
  • Document surgical activities and assist in patient care pre- and post-operatively as needed
Qualifications
  • Graduate of an accredited Surgical First Assistant program
  • Certification as a Certified Surgical First Assistant (CSFA), Certified Surgical Assistant (CSA), or equivalent
  • Current BLS and ACLS certification (or ability to obtain upon hire)
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in a surgical environment preferred
  • Strong knowledge of human anatomy, surgical procedures, and aseptic techniques
  • Excellent communication, organization, and critical thinking skills
