Overview
DecisionPoint seeks an Enterprise Architect to provide senior architectural and systems-engineering leadership for the USMEPCOM ENLIST program. This position develops concepts of operations, conducts technical trade studies, decomposes mission needs into actionable system requirements, defines interface requirements, develops scalable architecture approaches, and provides technical inputs for rough-order-of-magnitude estimates.
The Enterprise Architect evaluates current and target-state architectures across software, data, cloud, infrastructure, integration, security, and operations. The architect ensures proposed solutions are secure, interoperable, extensible, scalable, resilient, supportable, and aligned with USMEPCOM mission priorities and applicable Federal and DoD standards.
This position works closely with Government mission owners, software and systems engineers, cybersecurity personnel, cloud and infrastructure teams, data teams, technical leads, Agile delivery teams, testers, configuration managers, operations personnel, and program leadership.
This position is remote, with Chicago-area candidates preferred. Occasional travel or on-site participation may be required for architecture workshops, planning sessions, design reviews, or Government briefings.
Duties & ResponsibilitiesThe Enterprise Architect will:
- Lead enterprise architecture and systems-engineering activities across software, data, integration, cloud, infrastructure, security, and operational domains.
- Assess current-state systems, architectures, processes, interfaces, capabilities, constraints, risks, and technical debt.
- Develop target-state and transitional architectures aligned with mission objectives and modernization priorities.
- Ensure architecture decisions account for current systems, approved baselines, target environments, planned modernization, and technology-insertion initiatives.
- Develop and update system and enterprise Concepts of Operations.
- Document mission objectives, operating scenarios, stakeholders, users, workflows, system boundaries, external dependencies, constraints, assumptions, and support concepts.
- Facilitate CONOPS workshops with Government stakeholders, mission owners, users, engineers, and operational personnel.
- Translate mission needs and operational concepts into architectural drivers and technical requirements.
- Conduct structured requirements analysis.
- Decompose high-level mission and business needs into functional, product, component, interface, security, data, performance, availability, and operational requirements.
- Develop and review derived requirements needed to support system design, development, integration, testing, deployment, sustainment, and recovery.
- Ensure requirements are complete, unambiguous, actionable, measurable, testable, traceable, feasible, and sufficiently detailed for implementation.
- Maintain traceability among mission needs, CONOPS elements, architecture decisions, requirements, interfaces, designs, test criteria, and delivered capabilities.
- Support development and maintenance of requirements-traceability matrices.
- Define architecture-level acceptance criteria and verification approaches.
- Identify and resolve requirement conflicts, gaps, ambiguities, duplication, and unsupported assumptions.
- Conduct technical analyses and trade studies.
- Evaluate commercial, Government, custom-developed, cloud, platform, infrastructure, data, integration, and security alternatives.
- Compare alternatives using mission fit, technical feasibility, interoperability, security, scalability, performance, resilience, supportability, lifecycle, cost, schedule, licensing, vendor, and operational criteria.
- Document alternatives, evaluation criteria, assumptions, findings, risks, dependencies, and recommendations.
- Identify capability gaps, technology-integration opportunities, modernization options, and reuse opportunities.
- Develop architecture decision records and obtain appropriate stakeholder review and approval.
- Define system, application, service, data, security, deployment, and integration architecture.
- Develop or oversee system context, logical, physical, deployment, data-flow, trust-boundary, sequence, component, and interface diagrams.
- Develop and maintain System Design Documents and architecture-design sections.
- Define architecture patterns, standards, reference models, design principles, and reusable technical approaches.
- Review technical designs for alignment with enterprise architecture, validated requirements, security…
