Sign Language Interpreter in Waukegan, IL

Support students in educational settings as a Sign Language Interpreter in a contract role near Waukegan, IL. Two interpreter openings are available, each offering a unique schedule and educational environment. You'll play a pivotal part in bridging communication for Deaf or hard-of-hearing students in classrooms, fostering inclusivity and academic success.

• Proficiency in American Sign Language and familiarity with interpreting in K-12 educational environments
• Required certifications:
  • EIPA score of 3.5 or higher with Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) Approval
  • EIPA score of 3.03.4 accepted only with interim ISBE Interim Approval
  • Alternatively, BEI, ISAS, CI/CT, or NIC credentials accepted with ISBE Approval
• Professionalism and confidentiality in all student interactions
• Ability to adapt communication styles for various age groups
• Collaborative mindset with teachers, staff, and multidisciplinary teams

• Provide in-person, real-time interpretation for students during lessons, activities, and events
• Facilitate clear and accurate communication between students, teachers, and peers
• Support student comprehension of classroom instruction and participation in school life
• Maintain accurate records of services provided in accordance with district and program expectations
• Collaborate with educators on strategies to optimize access and learning for Deaf or hard-of-hearing students
• Ensure all communication remains confidential and aligns with school district guidelines

• Full-day, Monday to Friday, 9am3pm, through May 28, 2027
• Half-day, Monday to Friday, 8am12:00pm, through May 20, 2027
