Job Overview

Ross Stores, Inc. is seeking a Store Manager to lead all aspects of store operations, ensuring compliance with company standards, driving sales and profitability, and creating a friendly, high‑energy shopping experience.

Responsibilities General Operating Requirements
  • Lead all company best practices and maximize productivity by minimizing steps and touches.
  • Analyze store reports to evaluate controllable expenses and overall store performance.
  • Address any variance to company standards with an appropriate action plan, partnering with the District Manager as needed.
  • Ensure proper scheduling of associates to meet business objectives.
  • Accept special assignments as directed by leadership.
  • Handle payroll administration, including daily punch edits, associate scheduling compliance, Friday payroll transmission, and payroll reporting.
Organizational Development
  • Recruit, hire, train, and develop assistant managers, area supervisors, and non‑exempt associates.
  • Reduce store turnover using retention tools such as incentive programs, recognition opportunities, contests, and training.
  • Address personnel issues, including coaching, verbal and written warnings, progressive discipline, and termination when needed.
  • Ensure compliance with Ross personnel policies, procedures, and all state, local, and federal regulations.
  • Manage associate relations issues, consulting with the District Manager as needed.
Expense Control
  • Lead all expenditures to remain within budget.
  • Control payroll hours to plan, adjusting to current business trends.
Maintaining a Safe & Secure Environment
  • Adhere to company safety policies and ensure the safety of associates and customers.
  • Ensure associates understand and can execute emergency operating procedures.
Customer Service
  • Treat all customers, associates, and leaders with respect.
  • Demonstrate courtesy, friendliness, and professionalism at all times.
  • Execute customer service programs and merchandising presentation programs through associate training and supervision.
  • Coach associates to provide efficient and friendly service at registers, customer service desk, fitting rooms, and the sales floor.
Personal and Store Brand
  • Lead store associates in a professional appearance per the company dress code.
  • Represent and support the company brand at all times.
  • Maintain a clean, neat, easy‑to‑shop environment.
  • Ensure high standards of housekeeping with help from contracted maintenance personnel and Ross associates.
Merchandise Processing and In‑Store Marketing
  • Ensure recovery, sizing, and markdowns complete to company standards through teaching, assigning tasks, and following up.
  • Ensure merchandise is presented and organized according to company merchandising guidelines.
  • Urgently manage merchandise processing to the sales floor within the expected company timeframe.
Loss Prevention
  • Train associates on loss prevention programs to achieve store shortage goals.
  • Demonstrate integrity, honesty, and confidentiality in all interactions.
  • Maintain a strong customer service presence on the sales floor, enhancing loss prevention awareness.
  • Lead the annual inventory process and maintain proper administration of the out‑of‑stock policy.

Qualifications
  • Five or more years of store management experience in a retail environment.
  • High level of customer service.
  • Ability to lead, manage, motivate, and communicate positively with associates at all levels.
  • Training, coaching, and developing associates.
  • Organize and prioritize tasks, develop a schedule to achieve results.
  • Fluency in English.
  • Exercise considerable independent judgment and discretion.
  • Work evenings and weekends as required.
Physical Requirements (ADA)
  • Use all store equipment including PDTs, registers, and PC as required.
  • Spend up to 100% of working time standing, walking, and moving around the store.
  • Regularly bend at the waist, squat, kneel, climb, carry, reach, and stoop.
  • Occasionally push, pull, and lift more than 25 lbs.
  • Use janitorial equipment, rolling racks, ladders, and other assigned supplies.
