Direct Hire | Onsite with 50 percent Travel (US and Canada)
A national industrial equipment manufacturer is seeking a Field Service Engineer to support customers across the United States and Canada. This role provides hands-on technical work, autonomy, and a clear advancement path. Candidates with more experience and a technical degree may come in at the engineer level, while those with less experience or no formal postsecondary education may join as technicians with the opportunity to progress into the engineer track.
About the Opportunity:
This position plays a critical role in ensuring customers achieve peak performance from their production equipment. You will perform maintenance, diagnose and repair issues, support equipment installations, and deliver technical training. The work is onsite at client facilities, supported by a strong internal service, parts, and innovation center.
The ideal candidate enjoys hands-on mechanical and electrical work, solving problems independently, and providing high quality customer service in industrial production environments.
Key Responsibilities:
Maintenance and Repair:
• Perform routine and preventive maintenance
• Diagnose malfunctions and repair or replace defective components
• Work with mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and electronic control systems
Troubleshooting:
• Identify root causes quickly and implement effective solutions
• Utilize diagrams, schematics, and technical documentation
Installation and Start-Up Support:
• Install and configure equipment to specification
• Support project start-ups at customer facilities
Customer Training and Support:
• Train customer technicians on operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting
• Provide ongoing technical guidance and support
Documentation:
• Record services performed, parts used, hours worked, and site details
Safety and Compliance:
• Follow all safety protocols, standards, and company procedures
Other Duties:
• Participate in in-house repair work as needed
• Support customer visits to the company's technical and innovation spaces
Required Qualifications:
• Certificate or degree in electronics, engineering, or related technical field (Trade school, Technical College, Military Technical School)
• Minimum three years of hands-on technical experience working with tools and electrical test equipment
• Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills
• Ability to read diagrams, schematics, engineering specifications, and manuals
• Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and meet deadlines
• Comfort working in an industrial production environment with overtime as needed
• Ability to lift equipment including items occasionally over 50 lbs.
• Valid driver's license with clean driving record
Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience working on food, beverage, or packaging machinery
• Knowledge of servo drives, VFDs, PLCs, or similar controls
Travel Requirements:
• Minimum 50 percent travel
• Primarily travel by automobile
• Some domestic and international air travel may be required
Compensation:
The company offers two hiring paths depending on experience and education:
• Field Service Technician: 32 to 36 per hour
• Field Service Engineer: 38 to 44 per hour
Both roles include overtime opportunities and daily per diem during travel. The combined compensation creates a strong earning structure with clear upward mobility.
