Introduction

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation, Southeast Region, System Operations Section is seeking a Signals Engineer, Maintenance Engineer and Work Zone Engineer. All positions are Civil Engineer Transportation Advanced.

The positions are located at the Waukesha State Office Building, 141 NW Barstow Street.

Position Summary

Below are the current vacancies that Southeast Region System Operations Section is recruiting for. This list will be updated as positions are filled as well as new positions will be added.

Signal Engineer - This position functions as one of three Southeast Region signal engineers, collaborating with the traffic supervisor and staff to achieve the goal of safe and efficient signalized intersections. Responsibilities of this Civil Engineer Advanced include development of traffic signal design and operations plans as well as monitoring those completed by the Civil Engineer Senior/Entry positions and consultants. With over 500 traffic signals in SE Wisconsin, join us and apply your pride-of-ownership approach to WI's state highway system.

Maintenance Engineer - This position functions as one of three Southeast Region maintenance program managers working with the Supervisor on managing the overall state program. Assignments are broad in scope and continually require the use of independent judgement in making professional engineering decisions regarding Highway Maintenance Activities. This position performs work in response to program needs as interpreted by the employee, with general review of the work by the supervisor.

Engineering responsibilities require collaboration with county public works departments and the general public. The work requires engineering judgment on complex technical concerns and sensitive issues. This position is responsible for plan and specification field reviews of state highway projects. The position will serve as a Regional Incident Management Coordinator (RIMC) which requires being on standby 24/7 on a rotating basis.

This position provides advice and guidance on policies, rules, regulations and guidelines for all highway maintenance operations and programs. This position will provide oversight of regional liaison activities with internal Regional and statewide partners as well as the Department of Natural Resources. In addition, the position works with the counties on tracking costs and materials; serves as a liaison with various governmental units;

and responds to problems and complaints
