Position Summary
The Wisconsin Department of Transportation, Division of Transportation System Development, Southeast Region is seeking two Civil Engineer Transportation positions (Entry and Senior) headquartered in Waukesha at 141 NW Barstow Street. Both positions offer a hybrid work schedule with at least two days per week onsite and the option to telework from within the State of Wisconsin.
Key Responsibilities- Perform operational reviews of public and private developments adjacent to the state trunk highway system and assist in obtaining necessary approval or access permits.
- Provide technical support to the regional Traffic Impact Analysis (TIA) Engineer and evaluate development, safety, and operational impacts on the State Trunk Highway System.
- Review and recommend operational improvements on projects, including Intersection Control Evaluation (ICE) Reports, in collaboration with the Regional Traffic Operations Engineer.
- Support design and construction of transportation improvement projects in the Project Development Section, performing routine engineering duties in design and construction phases.
- Minimum:
Bachelor’s degree in engineering or engineering technology from an ABET (or ETAC) accredited institution; or possession of a PE license in Wisconsin. Entry-level candidates must graduate by May 2026. - Entry level:
Engineer in Training (EIT) certificate required if from an ETAC program. - Senior level:
At least 4 years of post‑degree engineering experience.
Entry level position:
Salary range $66,810-$76,066 (Schedule 14‑14). Senior level position:
Salary range $83,304-$102,398 (Schedule 14‑13). Both positions include a $3,000 sign‑on bonus for entry‑level hires with no prior permanent state service in the last five years and a commitment to remain in the role for one year.
