Mechanical Engineer, Quality Engineering
The Mechanical Engineer contributes to the design, analysis, integration, and verification of mechanical components and assemblies for GE Health Care's Magnetic Resonance (MR) systems. This role supports both existing products and new product development within the MR Mechanical Engineering team in Waukesha, WI. Working with guidance from experienced engineers, this engineer delivers assigned technical work, builds mechanical engineering capability, and collaborates across functions to develop safe, reliable solutions for a strong magnetic field environment.
Designs address system requirements, customer needs, clinical workflow, manufacturability, serviceability, and overall product performance. This position offers the opportunity to work across a variety of mechanical design disciplines including plastics, metals, structural components, electronics packaging, cable management, and vibration-sensitive systems. The ideal candidate brings a strong foundation in mechanical engineering principles, hands‑on CAD modeling experience, and a desire to contribute to innovative medical technology that impacts patient care around the world.
Develop mechanical concepts, detailed CAD models, engineering drawings, and technical documentation for assigned components and assemblies using established engineering methods and guidance.
Design and support components utilizing a variety of materials and manufacturing processes, including sheet metal, machined parts, plastics, composites, and electromechanical assemblies.
Perform engineering calculations and support structural, thermal, vibration, and other analyses to evaluate designs against performance and reliability requirements.
Participate in design tradeoff studies and contribute to engineering decisions balancing performance, cost, manufacturability, and serviceability.
Verification and Product SupportSupport prototype builds, subsystem integration activities, and verification and reliability testing.
Document results, investigate failures, and implement corrective actions to resolve assigned issues.
Investigate product, manufacturing, and field issues using hands‑on evaluation, data analysis, and root‑cause problem‑solving techniques.
Support ongoing product lifecycle activities, sustaining engineering efforts, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Quality and ExecutionApply design‑for‑reliability, design‑for‑manufacturability, design‑for‑assembly, and design‑for‑serviceability principles.
Ensure compliance with applicable safety, quality, reliability, regulatory, and cost requirements.
Follow established design controls, engineering processes, and quality system procedures.
Plan and execute assigned work with guidance while communicating progress, risks, dependencies, and challenges proactively.
Cross‑Functional CollaborationCollaborate with systems, electrical, manufacturing, sourcing, quality, regulatory, and service teams throughout product development and release activities.
Work effectively with global engineering teams, suppliers, and manufacturing partners across multiple time zones.
Participate in design reviews and incorporate customer, clinical, manufacturing, and service feedback into designs.
Technical DevelopmentContinue building proficiency in mechanical design, analysis, testing, and engineering processes through challenging assignments, feedback, and training.
