Electrical Designer
Job Description
The Electrical Designer supports engineering teams in the design and modification of vehicle systems and components, creating and updating detailed drawings and bills of materials (BOMs) using CAD software. This role focuses on electrical and fluid routing, wire harness and brancher design, and the application of engineering standards to ensure robust, manufacturable designs for prototype, pilot, and production builds.
Responsibilities- Create and update 3D and 2D CAD models, detailed drawings, assemblies, and bills of materials (BOMs) for vehicle systems and components.
- Route hydraulic and pneumatic lines within complex vehicle architectures, ensuring safe, efficient, and serviceable layouts.
- Support the design of wire harnesses and branchers, including routing, packaging, and integration with mechanical and electrical components.
- Apply geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) and engineering drawing standards to ensure clarity, accuracy, and manufacturability.
- Create and revise part numbers, BOMs, and engineering change documentation to maintain accurate configuration control.
- Collaborate closely with engineers and suppliers to resolve design, manufacturing, and production issues in a timely manner.
- Provide hands-on support for prototype, pilot, and production builds, including design updates and issue resolution.
- Ensure designs comply with internal standards and best practices for vehicle systems, components, and documentation.
- Communicate design status, risks, and recommendations clearly to cross-functional teams.
- Proficiency in 3D and 2D CAD modeling and drafting for mechanical and electrical components.
- Experience with CATIA and/or Creo CAD software for design and documentation.
- Hands-on experience routing hydraulic and pneumatic systems in vehicle or similar applications.
- Experience with wire harness and brancher design, including routing and packaging in constrained spaces.
- Ability to apply GD&T and established engineering drawing standards to create clear, manufacturable designs.
- Experience creating and revising part numbers, BOMs, and engineering change documentation.
- Bachelors degree plus 2 years of design experience, or equivalent relevant experience.
Skills & Qualifications
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining high-quality engineering documentation.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with engineers, suppliers, and production teams to resolve design and build issues.
- Comfort working in environments that include prototype, pilot, and production activities.
- Effective communication skills for discussing design intent, trade-offs, and problem resolutions.
- Adaptability to support both on-site and remote collaboration as needed.
The role supports vehicle design activities in a collaborative engineering environment that spans prototype, pilot, and production phases. CAD tools such as CATIA and Creo are central to daily work, along with standard engineering documentation systems for part numbers, BOMs, and change management. There is a preference for candidates who can work on-site, as remote employees are expected to spend their first week on-site to integrate with the team and become familiar with processes and tools.
For those traveling a significant distance for the initial on-site week, mileage or airfare and hotel costs can be expensed. The environment emphasizes cross-functional collaboration with engineers, suppliers, and production teams, with a focus on practical, manufacturable designs and timely issue resolution.
This is a Contract position based out of Oshkosh, WI.
