Introduction
Use your leadership skills and law enforcement experience as a State Patrol Sergeant! The Division of State Patrol is seeking talented individuals for a State Patrol Sergeant position. This position is headquartered at the Waukesha Post in the Southeast Region. This position will supervise a work unit in Racine County.
Residency for this position is within 60 miles of Waukesha Post or Racine County.

State Patrol Sergeants direct and supervise State Patrol Troopers and Inspectors responsible for law enforcement goals and objectives; assist in developing, implementing, and managing short-range and long-range programs; rotate as district duty supervisor by monitoring and directing operational activities; provide public relations liaison duties with the public, other law enforcement agencies, and the media; provide technical expertise relating to traffic law enforcement, policy analysis, short-range and mid-range program planning, program implementation, and program evaluation;
prepare budget issue papers and write research reports; and recommend policy and program improvements.
- Knowledge of traffic laws, rules, and regulations pertaining to motor vehicle operation.
- Knowledge of laws, regulations, and policies related to traffic law enforcement; knowledge of criminal law
- Knowledge of judicial procedures and practices including theory and method investigatory techniques, extent and limits of statutory arrest and use of force authority.
- Knowledge of supervisory principles, techniques, and methods to monitor and evaluate employee performance.
- Interpersonal skills
- Knowledge of the National Incident Management System/ Incident Command System
- Effective written and verbal communication skills, including the development and presentation of training materials
This position is in schedule-range (81-03) with a rate up to $54.26 per hour, plus excellent benefits. A twelve month probationary period is required. Pay for current state employees will be set in accordance with the Wisconsin State Compensation Plan.
