HAWS is looking for a full-time Community Cat Coordinator (CCC) for our Trap, Neuter, Release (TNR) and Barn Cats programs for the surrounding community.

General Responsibilities and Position Functions:
  • Carry and monitor Community Cat phone during work hours, as agreed upon by CCC and Manager.
  • Actively trap and transport cats in the community as needed.
  • Promote and emphasize need for Project Guardian (TNR) of felines in current habitat with the understanding that rehoming well socialized kittens is at the discretion of Kennel Leads and using Project Guardian as a method of intake diversion for non-adoption candidates.
  • Ability to understand and communicate standard practices of TNR to clients, staff, and community while balancing safety and quality of life.
  • Using mapping software and shelter software to record and track high volume populations via zip code, for targeted marketing of TNR.
  • Weekly, monthly and yearly recordkeeping of felines removed from breeding populations.
  • Monitor Seeking Sanctuary email.
  • Manage outflow of Seeking Sanctuary/Barn Cats when Kennel Leads communicate a need for barn homes and collaborate with marketing team as needed.
  • Work in Waukesha County and surrounding areas as needed.
  • Advertise and educate municipalities and governing bodies.
  • Be a liaison for community-based trapping, including education for neighbors and surrounding areas.
  • Recruit and train new volunteers that can assist with trapping and transport to the clinic for TNR services with a focus in growing this volunteer base.
  • Monthly inventory count and condition check for animal handling equipment pertaining to CCC.
  • Maintain vehicle cleanliness and return equipment to van better than found.
  • Collaborate with fund development team to solicit donations from clients professionally.
  • Handle monetary or non
    -monetary donations as needed.
  • Frequently coordinate between SNIP and clients for daily TNR. On an occasion TNR requires a longer stay, communication with kennel and office staff is necessary. Minimize these extended stays for the well being of the cats.
  • Train Front Office/Adoption staff to complete barn cat adoptions.
  • Provide coverage in the SNIP Clinic during staff absences or if CCC workload isn’t meeting full-time hours.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Position Requirements :
  • Requires a High School diploma or GED equivalent or work experience in a like position.
  • Previous experience handling fractious animals preferred.
  • Proficient skills with Microsoft Office Suite, and Outlook.
  • Money handling experience required.
  • Ability to work and communicate effectively with diverse clients, staff, and community partners.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with other departments throughout shelter.
  • Requires the ability to work under pressure and in variable conditions in the community and shelter.
  • Ability to stand or sit for long periods of time.
  • Able to lift 50 pounds, frequent bending, reaching, stooping, kneeling, and walking.
  • Requires normal range of hearing and eyesight to operate vans, clean, move animals and equipment daily.
  • Ability to pass criminal background check.
  • Possess valid Driver’s License.
  • Capable of being insured on HAWS vehicle policy.
  • Requires annual driving background check (MVR).

  • Work is performed indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions.

  • May be required to work evenings, weekends, and holidays.
