Overview

CLS/MLS/MLT Clinical Lab Scientist (WO) - weekends at SSM Health. This is a full-time Clinical Lab Scientist position at SSM Waupun Memorial Hospital with weekend night shifts.

Job Highlights: Full-time CLS position for SSM Waupun Memorial Hospital working Friday 9:30 p.m. to 6:30 a.m. and Saturdays and Sundays from 6:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. for 32 hours per week. A one-time sign-on bonus is available to qualified individuals for up to $10,000 (less taxes) with a 2 year service commitment.

Job Summary

Under general direction, interpret and report test results. Perform routine and complex technical laboratory analyses using established procedures and protocols. Perform chemical, microscopic, and bacteriologic tests to obtain data for use in diagnosis and treatment of patients.

Responsibilities
  • Performs a full range of laboratory tests from simple blood tests to more complex tests.
  • Interprets test reports and communicates findings to physicians.
  • Escalates unusual, critical or abnormal results.
  • Operates complex electronic equipment, computers and precision instruments.
  • Maintains accuracy of equipment and reagents by performing established preventive maintenance procedures.
  • Assists providers in choosing appropriate lab tests.
  • Performs and evaluates quality control procedures.
  • Operates, maintains, calibrates and troubleshoots instruments.
  • Assists with the proper storage of hazardous materials.
  • Reviews current literature and attends meetings and seminars to keep informed of new developments in the field.
  • Assists in the proficiency testing program in the lab.
  • Works in a constant state of alertness and safe manner.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Education
  • Associate's degree or equivalent years of experience and education

  • No experience required
Physical Requirements
  • Frequent lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling objects weighing 0-25 lbs.
  • Frequent sitting, standing, walking, reaching and repetitive foot/leg and hand/arm movements.
  • Frequent use of vision and depth perception for distances near and far, and color discrimination.
  • Frequent use of hearing and speech to share information through oral communication. Ability to hear alarms, malfunctioning machinery, etc.
  • Frequent keyboard use/data entry.
  • Occasional bending, stooping, kneeling, squatting, twisting and gripping.
  • Occasional lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling objects weighing 25-50 lbs.
  • Rare climbing.
Required Professional Licenses and/or Certifications

Eligible Licensure/Certification s vary by location. Examples include but are not limited to:

  • Blood Bank Technologist (BB) or similar ASCP/department licenses
  • Chemistry Technologist (C) or similar ASCP/department licenses
  • Clinical Chemist
  • Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) or Generalist licenses as recognized by applicable state boards
  • Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS), Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT), or equivalent per ASCP, AMT, AAB or state requirements
  • Other listed licenses/certifications per state requirements (California, Florida, Hawaii, Montana, New York, North Dakota, West Virginia, Wisconsin, etc.)
Work Shift

Night shifts (Friday–Sunday evenings into Monday mornings, as specified).
