Position Summary
We are seeking a dedicated Medical Assistant to join our growing team! In this role, you will be essential in ensuring a smooth and efficient patient experience by managing check‑in, rooming and check‑out processes. You will also provide vital support to our providers by educating patients on care plans, preparing and reviewing patient charts, assisting with in‑office procedures, and accurately documenting all actions in our electronic medical record.
This position is full‑time (40 hours per week, Monday‑Friday) and may include travel to our outreach clinic locations as needed.
- Completes the patient rooming and check‑out processes. Obtains, documents and/or verifies all required information, including reason for visit, past medical history, allergies, medications, demographics, etc.
- After provider visit, schedules patient follow‑up appointments, contacts pharmacies with prescription orders, and aids referrals to ancillary services.
- Accurately enters provider orders using CPOE for medication, laboratory, imaging and procedure orders.
- Educates patients on care plans, prescribed medications, injections, lab testing and specimen collections, and pre‑/post‑procedure instructions.
- Ensures readiness of the chart by reviewing all pertinent patient information before the visit and works with HIM to obtain records.
- Accurately records actions in the EMR, documenting care, observations, and responses to treatments.
- Chaperones or assists with procedures within scope of practice.
- Maintains inventory and cleans exam rooms; keeps work area neat.
- Performs clerical duties such as copying forms, managing insurance cards, faxing, and maintaining fax logs.
- Communicates timely with supervisor, clinical team leads, and administrative functions.
- Supports Physician and Advanced Practice Provider clinics as assigned.
- Attends and participates in Clinical Forum and educational sessions, applying information to practice.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- High School diploma or equivalent required.
- Successful completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program preferred.
- BLS Certification required.
- Current certification through an approved Medical Assistant credentialing organization or A ‑OE through AAMA preferred.
- Certified Medical Assistant (AAMA), Registered Medical Assistant (ARMA), Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (NHA), or comparable certification preferred.
- Minimum of one year of experience as a Medical Assistant highly preferred.
- Knowledge of medical terminology and basic pharmacology.
- Interpersonal, communication, and listening skills to interact courteously with patients, physicians, and staff.
- Proficient computer skills with EMR and practice management software.
- Professionalism and respect in all communications.
- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality of health information.
- Ability to work in a fast‑paced, multi‑tasking environment and adapt to changing patient care needs.
- Ability to prepare, gather and document data completely and accurately in an EMR.
- Ability to work independently and be self‑directed.
