Long-term Substitute Grade 1 Teacher

McKinley Elementary School, Wauwatosa School District

Wauwatosa School District seeks a Long-term Substitute Grade 1 Teacher for McKinley Elementary School, which serves approximately 220 students. The role is temporary, covering January 12, 2026 – January 30, 2026, with a start date of January 12, 2026. Pay is $190 per day.

• Follow the lesson plan left by the teacher for whom you are substituting.
• Maintain a classroom environment conducive to effective learning.
• Maintain a safe environment, taking reasonable precautions to protect students, colleagues, visitors, materials, equipment, and facilities.
• Maintain a high level of confidentiality regarding students and staff.
• Supervise students inside and outside the classroom.
• Assist with supervision during emergency drills, assemblies, and recess periods.
• Demonstrate awareness of and sensitivity to multicultural and multilingual values and environments.
• Hold expectations for high performance of yourself and students.
• Perform various clerical functions (e.g., taking attendance).
• Demonstrate computer literacy and operate software programs related to job responsibilities.
• Serve as a role model for students in conduct and citizenship.
• Comply with the requirement to remain free of alcohol or non-prescribed controlled substances while on duty.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

• Relevant teaching certification through the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction.
• Strong content knowledge, with the ability to teach high school students.
• Ability to differentiate instruction in mixed-ability classrooms.
• Experience working with children (preferred).
• Ability to communicate effectively and appropriately in both oral and written form.
• Ability to work independently.
