Job Summary: The Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) works collaboratively to improve the quality of patient care and promote desired patient outcomes in the acute rehab area. Where we offer customized, individualized rehabilitation tailored to the specific needs of those recovering from a stroke, brain injury, neurological conditions, trauma, spinal cord injury, amputation, and orthopedic injuries. The CNS functions as a leader within the three spheres of impact (Patient/Client, Nurses and Nursing Practice, Organization/System), and is an active participant on the nursing leadership team.

The Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) is an advanced practice registered nurse (APRN), who has the ability to provide integrated, cost-effective, quality patient care management for high-risk populations across the continuum of care. The CNS is a clinical expert in the diagnosis, treatment, and evaluation of adults and older adults experiencing various health conditions dependent on the specialty. The CNS designs and strategically implements population-based programs to enhance patient and family outcomes.

Responsibilities include:

clinical practice, program design/development, consultation, leadership, education, research, and interdisciplinary collaboration. As an APRN, the CNS utilizes evidence-based practice concepts and national guidelines to positively influence patient care. The CNS functions autonomously, and works in collaboration with Medical College of Wisconsin physicians to optimize the care of the specific population being served. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Experience

Description:

Previous experience as an Clinical Nurse Specialist is preferred. Prefer experience with specialty population.

Education

Description:

A minimum of a Master's degree in Nursing from an accredited school of nursing is required.

Training

Description:

Must have completed an accredited APRN specialty certification program within 6 months of hire.

Special Skills

Description:

Effective leadership, communication, collaboration, and organizational skills. Effective project management skills also preferred.

Licensure

Description:

This position requires:
1) current state of Wisconsin Registered Nurse License or a Multi-state Nursing License from a participating state in the NLC (Nurse Licensure Compact);
2) Licensure as an Advanced Practice Nurse Prescriber (APNP) must be obtained within 12 months of hire;
3) Specialty certification is required and must be obtained within 6 months of hire. American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support for the Healthcare Provider (BLS) or an AHA approved equivalent is required within 90 days of hire. Medicaid and Medicare (PECOS) enrollment is required.
