Title: Elementary School Counselor

Reports to: Elementary School Principal

FLSA: Exempt

Position Summary:

The Elementary School Counselor will serve as a lead advocate for TK–4 students at Prairie West and Shell Rock Elementary. Operating in a dynamic partnership with the counselor at North Ridge Elementary, this role collaborates to provide comprehensive social, emotional, and academic support. The position is designed for a proactive leader who thrives on building strong relationships with students, parents, and staff across multiple buildings to ensure a consistent and high‑quality counseling program for our youngest learners.

Essential Functions and Expectations:

• Work to discover and develop special abilities of students.
• Work to promote regular attendance, leadership behaviors and positive relationships with all students.
• Provide individual counseling and facilitate small groups.
• Provide weekly classroom lessons to our students.
• Provide crisis intervention and support as well as make referrals to outside agencies.
• Communicate and collaborate with parents on a regular basis.
• Promote the purpose and the use of the Pit Stop as a calm space to regulate and/or complete tasks.
• Address social and emotional issues that affect a student’s well‑being.
• Collaborate with the school team to implement programs and interventions to assist students.
• Be a positive role model and actively contribute to reaching our school‑wide goals and initiatives.

KNOWLEDGE

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

REQUIRED:

Education and Licensure:

• Master’s degree in School Counseling from an accredited institution of higher education.
• Iowa teaching license or professional service license with endorsement 172.
