Utility Plant Operator Trainee:Under close supervision, performs tasks related to the maintenance and operation of a Wastewater Treatment Plant, assisting with technical tasks within assigned areas. Performs other duties as assigned.
This is an entry-level class in the Utility Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator series, distinguished by routine tasks and operation only under direct supervision. No prior related experience is required.
Utility Plant Operator:Under general supervision, performs maintenance and operational tasks at a water treatment plant, ensuring quality and policy adherence. Performs technical tasks and other duties as assigned.
This is the full journey-level class, capable of operating the plant independently with minimal supervision. Employees are fully trained in all procedures and policies.
Duties for Trainee include:- Assist inspections, monitor operations, read gauges, assist with equipment adjustments, and chemical handling.
- Collect samples, perform routine lab tests, and assist with process control testing.
- Order supplies, perform tests, operate dewatering equipment, and assist with plant operations.
- Prepare reports, assist with repairs, maintain equipment, and perform plant cleaning and groundskeeping.
- Assist with equipment operation, chemical adjustments, and participate in training.
- Knowledge of treatment programs, basic chemistry, biology, mathematics, and laboratory techniques.
- Ability to operate plant equipment, interpret gauges, collect samples, recognize process changes, and communicate effectively.
- Perform inspections, monitor and document operations, operate equipment, and troubleshoot issues.
- Collect samples, perform lab tests, order supplies, and perform plant operations.
- Prepare reports, perform repairs, maintain grounds, and conduct tours.
- Knowledge of water treatment operations, safety, and regulations.
- Ability to operate and maintain equipment, interpret data, and follow policies.
Experience:
- High School Diploma or GED; related training or experience preferred.
- Valid driver's license required; ability to obtain relevant wastewater licenses within specified time frames.
Essential employees required to be available during emergencies to maintain water and wastewater services.
