Responsibilities
- Operate assigned activity or cash register stations:
Rowboats and Canoes, Miniature Golf, Day Use Area Gate House and/or FCA Gate House, and Pedal Boat Dock. - Cross‑train in all stations as required.
- Perform light maintenance duties for the park ranger (clean picnic sites, pick up trash, assist in bathhouse cleanups, etc.).
- Use tact and courtesy in frequent contact with the public.
- Deal effectively and firmly with the public.
- Be a self‑starter and work alone to complete tasks.
- Speak to people with poise, voice control, and confidence.
- Record and deliver information, explain procedures, follow oral and written instructions.
- Interact with people beyond giving and receiving instructions.
- Perform under occasional stress and with persons acting under stress.
- Maintain high standards of accuracy and efficient output of all duties.
- Complete assigned work on or before deadlines per County policy and procedures.
- Attend work regularly and adhere to County policies regarding absences and tardiness.
- Accept supervisory instruction; strive to meet goals and objectives.
- Offer suggestions to improve cooperation among staff and agencies.
- Share knowledge with supervisors and staff.
- Contribute to maintaining high morale among division employees.

- Maintain a clean and orderly workplace.
- Operate small office equipment, including copy machines or multi‑line telephone systems.
- Operate computers for data entry, word processing, and/or accounting purposes.

- Assist the Outdoor Recreation Coordinator with planning, coordinating, facilitating, set‑up, and clean‑up of outdoor recreation programs (kayaking, paddle boarding, hiking, outdoor movies, special events, team building, environmental education classes, volunteer opportunities, summer camps, and other outdoor opportunities).
- Help recruit, train, and manage volunteers during recreation programs and events.
- Promote and develop cooperative relationships and provide community outreach to various community groups and outside agencies.
- Provide information about services to individuals and groups about the outdoor recreation programs and services available.
- Assist with planning and coordinating field trips and summer camps.
- Perform housekeeping duties, including assigned office space, operations storage shed, cleaning vehicles, and general cleaning duties within county parks.

Special Requirements: Potential fingerprint background check as per NC General Statute 153A‑94.2(b). Applicants required to work with children must submit fingerprints. Youth employment certificate if applicable. Requires varying work hours to include nights, weekends, and holidays.
Preferred QualificationsEducation and Experience: Six (6) months of customer service experience or park experience.

Physical DemandsMust be physically able to operate a variety of equipment and machinery including cash registers, calculators, snack bar equipment, radios, blowers, computers, etc. Must be physically able to operate a motor vehicle. Must be able to exert a moderate amount of force constantly, and up to 40 pounds of force occasionally, to move objects. Moderate work usually requires walking or standing to a significant degree.
