This role will serve as a technical expert on GE/Wabtec locomotives, helping to train, educate, and lend experience to the Wabtec and CSX teams as a Lead Technical Advisor. This will largely be accomplished through advising, informing, researching, and assisting CSX mechanical employees in addition to serving as an experienced resource to fellow Wabtec Technical Advisors and Material Specialists. You will be part of an overall team made up of Wabtec technical and materials experts, all working to ensure our customer’s fleet is running at optimal levels.

Our Lead Locomotive Maintenance Technical Advisors are locomotive technical experts, relied upon for their expertise and knowledge. This role is a critical steppingstone in the career of our Locomotive Maintenance Technical Advisors and/or our Locomotive Maintenance Material Technical Advisors as they take on roles of increasing leadership responsibility and/or technical expertise.
What do we want to know about you?- Strong leadership presence, ability, and preferably prior experience
- Demonstrated success in a customer facing technical role – preferably in the railroad industry
- Undergraduate degree (preferably in a technical discipline) from an accredited university/college
- OR an associate degree in a technical discipline + 2 years of relevant professional work experience in lieu of the undergraduate degree
- OR high school graduate/GED + 4 years relevant professional work experience in lieu of the undergraduate degree
- An additional 3+ years shop operations or engineering experience.
- Experience, willingness, and ability to work in shop environment and to work various shifts on various days as required, including having a flexible work schedule to perform auditing and training on various shifts.
- Ability and willingness to travel as required for training, auditing, and supplier visits
- Strong proficiency in MS office applications
- Ability to gather, comprehend, and analyze large sets of data and present findings and conclusions based on the analysis
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Strong customer service and problem-solving abilities
- Demonstrated interpersonal, leadership, and influencing skills
- Demonstrated ability to leadership experience (both front line leadership of others and coordination projects)
- Wabtec Level 2 Certification highly preferred (Level 1 required)
- The ability to maintain reliable and predictable attendance
- A high level of dependability, a great attitude, and an ability to work well with a team towards achieving a common goal
Our Locomotive Maintenance Technical advisors work inside locomotive diesel repair shops located on our customer’s property, and work side by side with our customer, including their management teams.
This role serves as an OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) Technical Advisor, responsible for advising railroad employees and management on how/when/if to make specific repairs on GE/Wabtec locomotives rather than completing actual locomotive repairs yourself.
This is a unique aspect to this role in that you are essentially always in front of the customer, which requires a heightened since of awareness and customer centric focus, but also enables you to see the immediate impact of your contributions on a daily basis.
- This position is part of a team covering 24/7 schedule coverage
