- Direct operations, programs and activities to meet organizational and regulatory requirements and to drive innovation.
- Ensure adequate and qualified staffing for the department through timely hiring, orientation, competency, training, performance feedback and performance management.
- Develop and recognize staff through coaching and regular feedback.
- Serve as a role model for employee output and conduct.
- Set and execute department strategies to meet goals for service, quality, regulatory compliance, financials, patient satisfaction and personnel management.
- Proactively seek feedback and input from internal and external sources; evaluate and incorporate it into the department improvement and planning process.
- Oversee financial operations for the laboratory by monitoring resource utilization, identifying variances and opportunities, and adjusting as needed to meet service and fiscal goals; prepare Monthly Operating Review reports.
- Assure compliance with standards set by accrediting agencies: CAP, JCAHO, CLIA, FDA and CMS; develop and implement policies and procedures and verify annual reviews.
- Manage key vendor relationships and supply contracts in coordination with Laboratory Services and Supply Chain guidance.
- Develop and implement a communication plan to keep department personnel well informed; foster open communication by encouraging suggestions from staff.
- Direct and organize operations through appropriate delegation of responsibilities and authority in accordance with regulatory guidelines; monitor and evaluate staff activities and provide management, coaching, guidance, training and re‑training as necessary to ensure operational efficiency and adherence to policies.
- Baccalaureate Degree in Medical Technology, Biomedical Science, Biology or Chemistry (required).
- Master’s Degree (preferred).
- National Certification as a Medical Technologist (required).
- 5 years or more of progressive laboratory management experience with complex laboratory operations (required).
- Hospital clinical laboratory experience (preferred).
- Fully vaccinated for COVID‑19 based on local, state and/or federal law or regulations, unless an exemption is approved.
