This position is responsible for interacting with customers and team members, supporting selling initiatives, and performing assigned tasks while providing legendary customer service.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities (Min 5%)As a Team Member, it is essential that you be available, flexible, adaptable, and service-oriented, as you must be able to fulfill all of the following requirements:
- Maintain regular and predictable attendance.
- Work scheduled shifts and have the ability to work varied hours, days, nights, weekends, and overtime as dictated by business needs.
- Take the initiative to support selling initiatives (TEAM):
- Thank the Customer
- Engage with the customer and/or pet
- Advise on products or services
- Make it Memorable
- Perform a combination of duties during 95% of the day, including:
- Operate cash register/computer following cash handling procedures
- Merchandise recovery
- Participate in freight process
- Complete Plan-o-gram procedures
- Assemble merchandise
- Perform janitorial duties
- Execute price changes/markdowns
- Assist customers with loading purchases
- Ensure the safety and well-being of live animals, including sanitizing and maintaining tanks
- Complete all related documentation
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Experience:
No experience required; retail experience and/or pet/live animal knowledge is preferred.
Education:
High school diploma or equivalent preferred, but not required. Ability to read, write, and count accurately is essential.
- Pet/live animal, pet food, and product knowledge
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills
- Basic computer skills
- Strong interpersonal skills and ethical issue resolution
- Generally indoor environment with moderate noise
- Hard surfaces like concrete and asphalt; adequate lighting and temperature
- Shifts generally no less than 4 hours, possibly exceeding 8 hours
- Adhere to safety guidelines and promote a safe work environment
- Non-sedentary position requiring physical stamina
- Ability to move quickly and safely throughout the store and outdoor areas
- Operate equipment safely and efficiently
- Occasionally lift or reach overhead
- Stand, kneel, twist, crouch, squat, bend, stoop, and climb ladders frequently
- Move throughout the store for entire shift
- Access all store areas safely
- Operate store equipment and process information accurately
- Transfer merchandise and live animals up to 50 pounds
- Complete required training and certifications
