Job Description

Under general supervision and according to established procedures specific to age and upon order of a physician, provides respiratory care designed to stabilize, prevent, or remedy patient respiratory problems. Responsibilities include arranging and operating oxygen and therapeutic gas equipment to safely administer prescribed doses of medical gases and aerosolized drugs, checking equipment regularly, recording data during therapy and diagnostic testing, drawing and analyzing ABGs, and reporting to physicians and nurses.

Involved with adult ventilator weaning protocol and MDI protocol. Participates in embracing excellence and relationship-based care.

Qualifications

Requires graduation from an approved A.M.A. school for Respiratory Therapy. Must be Certified and Licensed Respiratory Therapist by the New Jersey State Board of Respiratory Care. Registration as a Respiratory Therapist is required. Must have the analytical ability to resolve problems using scientific, mathematical, or technical principles. Ability to explain clinical, technical, and diagnostic procedures to patients and their families, provide comfort, enforce policies, and perform other communication-intensive duties.

Must be capable of providing direct patient care to neonate, pediatric, adolescent, young adult, adult, and geriatric patients.
