Position Overview
We are seeking a highly experienced Vice President of Accounting to lead the financial operations of our fast-growing wholesale furniture company. This role oversees all accounting functions, ensures the accuracy of financial reporting, strengthens internal controls, and partners with leadership to support strategic growth. The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in inventory-driven businesses, a strong command of wholesale furniture industry dynamics, and proven leadership in scaling accounting operations.

Financial Leadership & Strategy:
- Provide strategic financial guidance to executive leadership to support company growth, margin improvement, and operational efficiency.
- Develop, maintain, and enhance financial policies, procedures, and internal controls.
- Lead the annual budgeting, forecasting, and long‑range planning processes.
- Apply a proactive, solution‑oriented mindset to financial strategy and operational decision‑making.
Accounting Operations:
- Oversee day‑to‑day accounting operations including A/P, A/R, general ledger, payroll, cost accounting, and revenue recognition.
- Manage month‑end and year‑end close processes to ensure timely and accurate reporting.
- Maintain compliance with GAAP and industry best practices.
- Ensure accounting accuracy through strong attention to detail and a commitment to meeting deadlines.
- Oversee inventory accounting, costing methods, landed cost calculations, and valuation for multi‑SKU, multi‑location furniture operations.
- Partner with warehouse, production, logistics, and sourcing teams to ensure accurate inventory records and alignment between systems (e.g., ERP, WMS).
- Monitor chargebacks, freight variances, return allowances, and deductions common in wholesale furniture accounts.
- Evaluate gross margin trends, SKU‑level profitability, and unit economics.
- Connect financial insights to operational realities to drive improved decision‑making.
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, management reports, and KPI dashboards.
- Lead preparation for audits, tax filings, and lender reporting requirements.
- Present financial performance and insights to the executive team and board of directors with strong communication and leadership presence.
Systems, Process Improvement & Technology:
- Oversee ERP accounting modules and support system upgrades or integrations (e.g., Net Suite, SAP, or furniture‑specific ERP platforms).
- Implement process improvements to support scalability, accuracy, and efficiency.
- Leverage automation and technology to streamline accounting workflows and reduce errors.
- Demonstrate a passion for continuous improvement and operational excellence.
- Lead and mentor the accounting team, fostering a culture of accuracy, accountability, and continuous learning.
- Assess team structure and capabilities; recruit and retain high‑performing talent as the company grows.
- Promote collaboration with cross‑functional teams including Sales, Operations, Logistics, Production, and Customer Service.
- Strengthen team performance through consistent coaching, development, and high standards.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required; CPA or MBA strongly preferred.
- 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including at least 5 years in a leadership role.
- Prior experience in the wholesale furniture, home goods, or consumer goods industry is highly preferred.
- Deep understanding of inventory accounting, costing, landed cost, and wholesale financial operations.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP, internal controls, and multi‑entity or multi‑channel operations.
- Experience working with ERP systems relevant to furniture/wholesale environments.
- Exceptional analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to thrive in a fast‑paced, entrepreneurial environment.
- Strong leadership presence, proactive problem‑solving skills, and a commitment to accuracy, deadlines, and ongoing team development.
