Eastern University, a Christian university of the liberal arts and sciences located in St. Davids, Pennsylvania, invites applications for the full-time Public Safety Officer vacancy. A Public Safety Officer patrols the campus to discourage criminal behavior, provides shuttle transportation, secures buildings, and interacts with all members of the Community to promote a sense of well-being and security, and enhance the quality of life on the Eastern University campus.
This position is a Campus Security Authority (CSA) and must report any crimes or incidents as required.
The position is full-time, 12 months per year, with a schedule to be determined. The role requires high standards of safety, integrity, and compassionate service to the campus community.
Base pay range$40.00/hr - $40.00/hr
Responsibilities- Uses radio/telephone to answer all calls and maintain logs of patrol activities.
- Provides shuttle transportation to rail stations and other areas as assigned; maintains passenger logs.
- Regulates campus vehicular and pedestrian traffic; enforces University parking regulations.
- Responds to emergency situations, including alarms, medical emergencies, and crimes in progress; summons municipal Police, Fire, and EMS as required.
- Identifies, reports, and resolves hazards; inspects buildings and properties for proper maintenance and safety.
- Interacts with the community and visitors; provides assistance as a goodwill ambassador.
- Administers First Aid and CPR when necessary.
- Investigates crimes, accidents, and incidents; prepares and submits concise reports in accordance with procedures.
- Secures and unlocks campus buildings according to schedules and procedures.
- Provides Safe Walk escorts for community members and visitors.
- Demonstrates caring, justice, integrity, competence, and respect in line with the University’s mission.
- As a CSA, reports crimes or incidents to appropriate authorities as required.
- Other duties as assigned.
- High school diploma or GED; valid driver’s license with a clean driving record; at least one year of driving experience.
- Ability to drive safely at night and in poor weather.
- Proven computer literacy (Microsoft Word, Excel); excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to pass a background investigation including criminal records check and a physical and/or psychological examination.
- Ability to follow instructions and work well with others.
- Physical requirements:
ability to lift up to 50 pounds; ability to sit/stand for extended periods; ability to bend, stoop, kneel, reach above shoulder level, and push/pull as needed. - Specific vision abilities: close, distance, depth perception, and focus.
- Ability to report to work for assigned shifts and perform duties for a minimum of eight (8) hours per day.
