Summary
This role reports to the Fleet Plant Engineering Support Electrical and Controls (I &
C) Manager and provides motor support for a fleet of eight Southern Nuclear operating units. Responsibilities include medium and low voltage AC and VFD motor support, governance of motor maintenance and life‑cycle management programs, long‑range planning, performance monitoring, procedure development, and specification input.
- Support Southern Nuclear fleet (8 operating units) for medium and low voltage AC and VFD motor support.
- Governance and oversight of motor maintenance and life‑cycle management programs, including long‑range planning and performance monitoring.
- Develop procedures, specifications, and performance monitoring strategies for motor systems.
- Coordinate motor maintenance, refurbishment, repair, and troubleshooting activities.
- Provide technical support to maintenance and engineering teams during outages and special projects.
- Engage with vendors for factory acceptance testing, performance testing, and site acceptance tests.
- Lead and participate in professional organizations and technical committees related to motors.
- Assist in the development, review, and approval of motor specifications.
- B.S. in Electrical, Mechanical, Controls, or Industrial Engineering from an ABET‑accredited institution (or equivalent experience).
- Minimum 10 years of motor experience and strong motor technical abilities.
- Experience with various motor designs, maintenance practices, refurbishment, repair, troubleshooting, and monitoring techniques.
- Knowledge of performance testing, vendor factory acceptance testing, and site acceptance testing.
- Experience supporting maintenance and engineering in resolving motor equipment issues.
- Professional Engineer (P.E.) license preferable; advanced degree in motor design or related field strongly desired.
- Active leadership in professional organizations such as IEEE, NEMA, ASME or technical committees such as EASA, EPRI LEMUG.
- Strong analytical skills for motor speed/torque curves, amperage, voltage, and test data to ensure pump and fan compatibility.
- Maintain unescorted site access and NRC Fitness for Duty.
- Work alternate shifts, extended hours, and be available for maintenance outages.
- Qualify for Emergency ERO Duty support as agreed with SNC management.
