Job Title:
Elementary Art Teacher
Location: Wenonah Elementary School, Waynesboro, VA
Reports to: Principal
Job SummaryThe Elementary Art Teacher at Wenonah Elementary School is responsible for creating and delivering engaging art lessons to students in grades K-5. This role involves developing students' artistic skills, encouraging creativity, and promoting an appreciation for the arts. The teacher will design and implement a curriculum that meets Virginia state standards, caters to diverse learning styles, and integrates with other subjects when appropriate.
Key Responsibilities- Lesson Planning and Instruction:
- Develop and implement an art curriculum and lesson plans that meet Virginia state standards.
- Teach a variety of art techniques, including drawing, painting, sculpture, and other media.
- Foster a positive and inclusive classroom environment that encourages student participation and creativity.
- Use a variety of instructional strategies to accommodate different learning styles and abilities.
- Classroom Management:
- Establish and maintain classroom routines and procedures.
- Manage student behavior constructively and positively.
- Ensure a safe and orderly classroom environment.
- Assessment and Evaluation:
- Assess students' progress through formative and summative assessments.
- Provide constructive feedback to students to support their growth.
- Maintain accurate records of student progress and report to parents/guardians as required.
- Collaboration:
- Work collaboratively with other teachers and staff to integrate art into the broader curriculum.
- Participate in school events, exhibitions, and art shows.
- Communicate regularly with parents/guardians about student progress and upcoming projects.
- Professional Development:
- Stay current with developments in art education.
- Attend professional development workshops and training sessions.
- Share best practices and new ideas with colleagues.
- Resource Management:
- Maintain and organize art supplies and equipment.
- Order and inventory art materials as needed.
- Ensure the art room is clean and orderly.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Art Education, Fine Arts, or a related field. A teaching credential or certification in Art Education is preferred.
- Experience: Previous experience teaching art to elementary-aged children is desirable.
- Skills:
- Strong knowledge of various art techniques and media.
- Excellent classroom management and organizational skills.
- Ability to inspire and motivate students.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Creativity and flexibility in teaching approaches.
- Environment: Classroom setting, which may include an art room with various supplies and equipment.
- Physical Demands: May require standing for extended periods, as well as lifting and moving art supplies and equipment.
- Salary and benefits will be commensurate with experience and qualifications. The salary listed is the salary for the school year. The Waynesboro School Board is expected to approve salary scales soon.
