TxDOT’s Fort Worth District is looking for an Engineering Assistant II located in the Weatherford Area Office. The position will rotate through training and experience programs to prepare candidates for a Professional Engineer license and will focus on producing PS&E design for a variety of construction projects. The EA will also rotate into the field to help oversee the execution of project design plans.

Salary Grade: Engineering Assistant II: B21 $ 54,278 - $87,046 (Yearly)

This posting is for one Engineering Assistant II position, depending on business need and applicant qualifications. TXDOT reserves the right to determine the level of position based on work experience, education, skill level, and other appropriate factors.

• Perform advanced and specialized engineering design work, including engineering calculations for plan quantities as part of PS&E preparation activities.
• Assist during emergencies and inclement weather.
• Perform engineering-related calculations and drafting/design work.
• Perform engineering-related planning, design, data collection, evaluation, and analysis activities.
• Use automated roadway/structural/hydraulic design programs and computer‑assisted design/engineering systems.
• Perform other job responsibilities as assigned.
• Actively prepare for professional engineering licensing/registration through appropriate training, exams, and required documentation.
• Apply engineering principles, methods, and techniques to a wide variety of transportation‑related activities.
• Conduct engineering studies, inspections, and field work to support design and construction activities.

Bachelor's Degree in engineering or a related science discipline. A Master’s or Doctoral degree in engineering is also acceptable.

1 year of engineering‑related experience (full‑time or prorated part‑time).

• Valid driver’s license required.
• Knowledge of applicable governmental laws, rules, and regulations.
• Proficiency in transportation design engineering principles, practices, and methods.
• Understanding of traffic engineering terminology and fundamentals.
• Familiarity with materials used in highway/bridge construction and maintenance.
• Experience with highway construction and maintenance.
• Ability to perform calculations using algebra, trigonometry, and geometry.
• Competence in reading and interpreting plans, schematics, blueprints, and maps.
• Experience with design review processes.

• Subject to inside and outside environmental conditions.
• Required to wear protective gear (respirator, hard hat, or other device).
• Sedentary work: lift up to 10 lbs at a time, occasionally carry files/small tools.
• Fingering, picking, pinching, typing; working primarily with fingers.
• Talking, expressing or exchanging ideas by spoken words.
• Visual acuity required for operating motor vehicles and/or heavy equipment.
• Job is physically demanding; a pre‑employment physical is required.
• Must pass a drug test prior to employment for safety impact positions (no medical marijuana exemption).
• Required to work weekends, holidays, and hours outside 8‑5.
• Must work under inclement weather conditions.
• Applicants will be required to perform a job simulation.
• All Engineering Assistants must participate in the Engineering Assistant Career Development Program (EACDP). Failure to comply may result in reclassification.
