Some evening/weekend work required.
The position is subject to “on-call” status twenty-four (24) hours a day; seven (7) days a week to respond to emergencies, work rotating shifts, overtime, weekends and holiday, as well as emergency “call-back” when not “on-call” to respond to emergencies after hours and complete priority projects.

A Signal Systems Technician I job is available with the City of Fort Worth in the Transportation and Public Works Department, Traffic Management Division. The Signal Systems Technician I assists in the installation, repair, and preventive maintenance of traffic signals equipment and ITS devices. The City of Fort Worth is looking for a highly skilled and motivated individual who wants to expand their technical knowledge and professional career by being involved in the implementation of state-of-the-art technology in the area of traffic signal and ITS systems.
The City of Fort Worth is currently in the process of procuring and implementing new traffic signal controller hardware/software, new central traffic management systems software, a city fiber optic network, PTZ cameras, and other related ITS devices.
- High school diploma/GED
- One (1) year of experience in electrical construction or electrical maintenance construction
- Possession of a valid Texas Driver’s License required
- Possession of or ability to obtain IMSA Traffic Signal Tech Level I certificate within 12 months of hire date
- Customer service experience
- Computer skills, including but not limited to Microsoft Office
- Preference may be given for additional education, knowledge, experience and/or certifications as it relates to the position
- Knowledge of pertinent federal, state and local laws, codes, and regulations
- IMSA Traffic Signal Tech Certification
- At least one year of direct traffic signal experience
- Assists technicians and crew leaders with materials, equipment and tools in the installation, maintenance and operation of traffic control system hardware, street lighting circuits attached to traffic signals, system communication, system detection and data collection.
- Assists in providing a safe environment for areas around job site; helps ensure public safety.
- Maintains assigned vehicle; conducts general maintenance such as cleaning and restocking with supplies.
- Strings or buried wires and cables related to traffic control systems.
- Operates equipment related to the performance of job duties.
- Provides on-call and emergency call back duty.
- Performs other related duties as required.
- Adheres to assigned work schedule as outlined in the Department and City attendance policies and procedures; ensures all behaviors comply with the City’s Personnel Rules and Regulations.
Depending on assignment, positions in this class typically require touching, talking, hearing, seeing, grasping, standing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, walking, repetitive motions, climbing, balancing, pushing, pulling, and lifting; depending on assignment. Incumbents may be exposed to moving mechanical parts, odors, dusts, poor ventilation, chemicals, oils, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting and intense noises.
Medium work — Depending on assignment, positions in this class typically exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly having to move objects.
