* High school diploma or equivalent and one-year related experience.

* JOB SUMMARY:

* To provide intermediate skills in the operation of a large telephone switchboard system.

*
* ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

*
* + Operates telephone switchboard to establish or assist customers in making local or long-distance telephone connections.

+ Routes all incoming and outgoing telephone calls placed through the switchboard.

+ Provides answering service for various UTMB clinics after hours.

+ Assists doctors, students, and other staff members on problems with their pagers.

+ Provides information to callers and records messages.

+ Keeps records of calls placed and charges incurred.

+ Adheres to internal controls established for department.

+ Performs related duties as required.

** WORKING ENVIRONMENT/EQUIPMENT:*
* + Standard office / telecommunications environment.

+ Central switchboard console, Western Union Telex, and Radio Page System.

** SALARY RANGE:*
* Actual salary commensurate with experience.

* WORK SCHEDULE:

*
* Float position with a variable schedule based on departmental staffing needs. Must be available to work flexible hours, including days, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays, as needed to provide coverage for a department operating 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. Training will be provided.
