Space Suit Design Engineer

Overview

Space Suit Design Engineer role at K , Inc. Space Suit Operations Team on the xEVAS contract.

• Design, develop, test, implement, and analyze technical products and systems using applied engineering principles, including solid and fluid mechanics, and heat transfer.
• Perform engineering design evaluations.
• Procure, assemble, and test advanced prototypes to inform design decisions and demonstrate performance.
• Prepare and present designs at design reviews using MS Word and PowerPoint.
• Produce other required design documentation.
• Assist in developing requirements for hardware.
• Ensure designs satisfy requirements and demonstrate performance through thorough verification and validation.
• Support production of hardware, evaluate anomalies, and implement corrective actions.
• Perform trade studies for technology development.
• Analyze data and make recommendations for improvement.
• Understand nominal and off-nominal operations for the technical system and its interactions with other systems.
• Manage multiple issues and develop integrated solutions.
• Collaborate with fabrication and manufacturing to ensure proper execution of final designs.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering, or a related field.
• 5 to 10 years of related experience.
• Onsite work in Houston, Texas near Johnson Space Center (77058).
• Excellent verbal, written, interpersonal, leadership, and teamwork skills.
• Proficiency with CAD software in design work.
• Ability to collaborate with peers, cross-functional teams, and external customers.

• Hands-on familiarity with production-grade manufacturing equipment.
• Experience designing life-critical components for use in extreme environments.
• Experience with qualification and acceptance testing.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills.

This position is located onsite at a customer facility.
