Pharmacy Technician or Senior Tech - Webster Pharmacy (M-F 7am to 3:30pm)
Join the University of Texas Medical Branch as a Pharmacy Technician or Senior Technician (M-F 7am to 3:30pm). This open‑pooled position may be filled at a higher or lower level, depending on qualifications.
Minimum Qualifications- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Registered as a Pharmacy Technician with the Texas State Board of Pharmacy (TSBP), or registered as a Pharmacist Intern with the Texas State Board of Pharmacy (TSBP).
- Retail pharmacy experience.
- Two (2) years of pharmacy technician experience or Associate of Applied Science in Pharmacy Technician for senior level.
- Four (4) or more advanced Pharmacy Technologist competencies, including:
- Preparation and/or oversight of complex prescription medications or medications requiring special handling (e.g., extemporaneous non‑sterile compounded products, sterile compounded IV products, specialty medications).
- Participation in medication therapy management operations.
- Initiation of medication reconciliation.
- Assistance with screening, documentation, and preparation of immunizations.
- Work with patients, providers, and payers to obtain prior authorization.
- Resolution of billing/adjudication issues encountered in prescription processing.
- Proficiency in financial assistance software.
- Proficiency in C2 safe operation and/or OR anesthesia narcotic reconciliation.
- Advanced skill in the use of technology within the area of assignment.
- Collaboration with leaders and team members to solve problems within the assigned area.
- Ability to train new employees within the area of assignment.
- Effective communication with other healthcare professionals.
- Application of accepted procedures in inventory control of medications, equipment, devices, and other supplies.
- Support of pharmacy compliance with professional standards and relevant legal, regulatory, formulary, contractual, and safety requirements.
- System data entry of referral requests, drug utilization management information, prepacking information, drug purchasing information, or non‑formulary approval information.
The Pharmacy Technologist assists pharmacists in drug distribution, technical services, and clinical services associated with the preparation, storage, and dispensing of pharmaceuticals. The Senior Pharmacy Technologist provides technical support, addresses complex prescription processing, manages immunization workflows, collaborates with providers and payers for prior authorization, and escalates complex issues to the Lead Pharmacy Technologist or Supervisor as needed.
Licenses, Registrations or Certifications- Registered as a Pharmacy Technician with the Texas State Board of Pharmacy (TSBP).
- OR registered as a Pharmacist Intern with the Texas State Board of Pharmacy (TSBP).
