Job Summary

As a Diesel Mechanic, you will work independently and in a team to service and repair diesel engines, tractors, and trailers. The role includes performing regular preventative maintenance and major/minor repairs to a delivery vehicle fleet, troubleshooting electrical, hydraulic, ignition, pneumatic systems and engines, and occasionally delivering equipment or parts. A valid driver’s license and clean record are required. The ideal candidate adheres to quality expectations and standards with excellent attention to detail.

Duties

/ Responsibilities
  • Diagnose and repair all types of diesel equipment, including OTR trucks, delivery trucks, pickups, and other support equipment.
  • Troubleshoot, repair, and perform preventive maintenance on fuel, hydraulic, transmission, axle, suspension, lighting, electrical/computer control, radio, brake, and air conditioning systems.
  • Use a ticketing system for work orders, inputting and closing orders, and logging parts cost.
  • Perform welding and fabrication as needed.
  • Make emergency field repairs to trucks.
  • Maintain parts inventory, order necessary parts.
  • Test drive repaired trucks to verify repair.
  • Apply technical standards and professional judgment.
  • Maintain a clean, safe work environment complying with corporate and OSHA standards.
  • Ensure safety for self and others at all times.
  • Work a flexible schedule as needed.
  • Adhere to all company policies and procedures.
  • Perform all other duties assigned by the Garage Manager.
Qualifications
  • 1+ year heavy-duty diesel and medium fleet automotive experience; ASE certifications a plus.
  • Familiarity with troubleshooting electrical/computer control, ABS brake, and air conditioning systems.
  • Strong background in diagnosing Kenworth, Freightliner, International, Cummins, and Paccar engines.
  • Experience with hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical, chassis, and powertrain systems.
  • Computer skills operating Windows-based programs.
  • Experience with Emdecs, Kona, Cummins Insight, and Davie 4 preferred.
  • DOT inspection certificate preferred.
  • Valid Arizona driver’s license with a clean record;
    Class A CDL preferred.
  • Must have own tools.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Effective communication with co-workers.
  • Positive attitude and strong interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to safely operate vehicles and equipment for testing and troubleshooting.

  • Verify vehicle performance through test drives and system adjustments.
  • Comply with federal and state vehicle requirements.

  • Control costs using warranties and evaluate service options.
  • Inventory stock, place orders, verify receipts.
