Position
Resident Advocate Evening B – Bay Area Turning Point, Inc.
Job OverviewResident Advocate Evening B is responsible for overseeing and providing direct support to victims of domestic and sexual violence during assigned shifts. Perform related tasks as assigned by the Shelter Manager.
Hours32 hours weekly:
Sunday 4 pm–12:30 am, Monday 4 pm–12 am, Thursday 4:30 pm–12:30 am, Friday 5 pm–12:30 am, plus days as necessary to achieve program objectives.
- Provide crisis intervention to residents and hotline callers.
- Provide orientation to residents regarding shelter guidelines and procedures and ensure adherence.
- Oversee the safety, security, and general welfare of residents and the facility during shifts.
- Maintain confidentiality of shelter records and resident information.
- Ensure donations are accepted, recorded, and stored properly.
- Attend and contribute to shelter and combined staff meetings.
- Oversee cleanliness of the shelter, check chores, and reassign as needed.
- Document pertinent information in client files and communication logs.
- Submit maintenance requests for equipment and building repairs.
- Check call notes and retrieve client messages.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Entry‑level position; no additional qualifications required.
- Minimum 4‑year degree in Social Work, Sociology, Psychology, Human Services, or comparable experience.
- Must pass a criminal background check, motor‑vehicle report, and reference checks.
- Must have a clean driving record / proof of automobile insurance coverage / be insurable / have at least three years of verifiable driving experience.
- Ability to lift/carry/move a minimum of 40 lbs. over an extended distance.
- Demonstrate communication and problem‑solving skills that encourage and empower residents to seek remedies for positive changes.
- Handle multiple tasks and prioritize changing workload.
- Make independent decisions to benefit residents, the facility, and the agency.
- Show sensitivity regarding family violence and sexual assault issues; remain calm in crises.
- Understand residential programs and the dynamics of communal living.
