Performs all types of MRI services as required in examinations to assist physicians in the detection of pathology, abnormal anatomy, fractures and/or disease. Assists radiologist and physicians when necessary. Screens patients for safety and exam appropriateness. Knowledgeable in ALL aspects of MRI safety.

++MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS++:

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:

  • Must possess current licensure as an MRI Technologist through the West Virginia Board of Radiologic Technologists.

  • Registered through American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (ARRT) in MRI OR MRI certification through ARMRIT.

  • CPR certification.

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Prepares patient for MRI examinations; explains procedures prior to testing and answers patient questions relating to ordered exam.

  • Screens all patients in depth concerning history, possible metallic or foreign body and for completion of diagnostic x-rays both prior to and post MRI, as well as verifies pre-certification of insurance for the procedure. Safety is a priority.

  • Performs quality MRI exams, maintains accurate records, assists physicians when necessary, completes exams in timely manner. Knowledgeable in all aspects of MRI scanning protocols.

  • Performs routine QA checks. Is responsible for immediately reporting any equipment that is not in proper working condition to the Radiology director or manager so they can call for service.

  • Maintains supplies in clean and sterile conditions; transports contaminated instruments and devices to Central Processing for proper sterilization.

  • Instructs and cross-trains new technologists in proper methods and procedures regarding MRI exams and safety — safety is always a priority.

  • Performs sterile and isolation techniques; follows all OSHA standards.

  • Maintains continuing education on procedures and techniques in order to perform examinations of high quality.

  • Maintains work area in a clean and orderly condition to prevent spread of infection or disease to patients, visitors and personnel.

  • Properly assesses patient information on RMS system. Charges, changes and adds information as necessary to keep records accurate. Can assess patient lab records, etc as needed through Soarian. Logs off after using computer. Responsible for verifying pre-certification of insurance for procedures that require it. Ensures all completed images are on PACS.
