Staff Pharmacist – WVU Medicine
We are seeking a dedicated Staff Pharmacist to join our pharmacy team at the WVU Medicine system. The pharmacist will provide expert medication therapy management, ensure accurate dispensing, and support clinical and operational pharmacy services across the hospital setting.
Responsibilities- Dispense drugs, chemicals, and pharmaceutical preparations as ordered by physicians.
- Provide pharmaceutical consultation to doctors and nurses as needed.
- Initiate prescription review and take corrective action when appropriate.
- Assist the Pharmacy Manager with drug purchasing and vendor management.
- Coordinate with sales representatives of pharmaceutical companies as required.
- Conduct drug checks and inspections on various hospital floors.
- Support the IV admixture program by checking orders for completeness, accuracy, and compatibility.
- Participate in pharmacy-related hospital meetings as delegated.
- Assist with the Pharmacy Quality Assurance program and floor inspection reports.
- Current pharmacist license for the state(s) of employment (Maryland, Ohio, Pennsylvania, or West Virginia).
- Hospital pharmacy experience via internship or as a registered pharmacist.
- Knowledge of state and federal pharmacy regulations.
- Computer proficiency is a plus.
- Walk and stand for extended periods.
- Lift up to 30 lbs and push up to 50 lbs.
- Dexterity required for handling and reaching.
The pharmacist will work in a busy hospital setting, requiring close collaboration with multidisciplinary teams and adherence to safety and quality protocols.
Skills & Abilities- Strong knowledge of growth, development, and patient needs across all age groups.
- Comprehensive understanding of pain management and palliative care principles.
- Familiarity with personal, cultural, ethical, and discharge planning considerations for patients.
- Competence in patient care assessment for neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric populations.
- Professionalism in commercial and hospital pharmacy practices.
