American Traveler is hiring a Med/Surg RN for a 13-week night shift assignment requiring a WV or compact RN license and at least 1 year of experience.

• 48-bed Med/Surg unit in an acute care hospital setting
• Patient ratios of 1:5-7 on days and 1:6-8 on nights
• Common diagnoses include pneumonia, UTI, altered mental status, GI bleed, alcohol withdrawal, and falls/weakness
• 12-hour night shifts, 7 PM to 7 AM
• Weekend rotation required every other weekend
• Holiday rotation required for RNs
• Floating required to other Med/Surg, Med/Surg-Tele, or IMC units for lower acuity patients
• RNs titrate drips including heparin, bumex, and lasix, with no cardiac drip titration required
• Charge nurse present on each shift; may or may not take a patient assignment depending on staffing
• PCTs/CNAs on unit with ratio of approximately 1:10-12, handling vitals, blood glucose monitoring, EKGs, and ADLs
• Respiratory Therapy manages ventilators, BiPap, CPAP, and high flow O2; RNs not required to manage this equipment
• Dedicated monitor tech reads telemetry strips; RNs not expected to interpret tele
• No call or standby requirements
• Uses EPIC EMR

• Active WV or compact RN license required
• BLS certification required
• Minimum 1 year of RN experience required
• Experience with drip titration preferred (excluding cardiac drips)
• First-time travelers will be considered

• Daily responsibilities include direct patient care, monitoring, medication administration, and coordination with ancillary staff
• Unit orientation includes 1 day with an educator on computer systems and 1 day shadowing a preceptor
• Schedule is created by the manager with consideration for requested time off; no self-scheduling or block scheduling available
• Travelers are expected to remain flexible to help fill scheduling gaps
• If working rotating shifts, schedule typically alternates in 2-week blocks between days and nights
• Navy blue scrubs required for RNs
• Must reside outside a 50-mile radius of the facility to qualify for travel assignment
• Previous WVU Medicine travelers must have completed a 2-year break before reapplying
• Travelers cannot work within the WVU Medicine system for longer than a year without taking a 2-year break
• Candidates interview directly with the unit manager
