The Scanning Clerk is responsible for maintaining high standards of pricing integrity throughout the entire store. They ensure all pricing is accurate and understandable to our customers, maintain an accurate scanning price file for all items, and assist with product rotation and item placement/removal following state pricing laws and company guidelines. The role shares responsibility for ensuring price scanners and printers are operational and scan correctly, and works closely with Store Managers and Assistant Store Managers.

Responsibilities
  • Ensure daily that all price scanners and printers in the store are operational.
  • Separate, sort and distribute weekly shelf tags to appropriate departments.
  • Perform a weekly aisle scan to confirm all merchandise is properly tagged and scanning correctly.
  • Maintain store signage standards and check date codes for proper rotation.
  • Notify the Store Manager or Assistant Store Manager of potential shrink problems, damaged or missing merchandise, out‑of‑stock situations, security issues, and customer requests or complaints.
  • Notify Merchandising Systems Department personnel of pricing or item issues using appropriate forms.
  • Ensure all store personnel inform the Scanning Clerk of pricing problems, tag issues, or item data issues.
  • Scan items needing replacement tags and create/print tag batches using the sign system to hang all replacement tags.
  • Create signage when needed and file/maintain copies of logs, reports and forms at store level for documented time frames.
  • Ensure all shelves and displays are blocked and straightened after rotating a section; clean shelves when needed.
  • Attend meetings when needed and perform other duties as assigned by the Store Manager, Assistant Store Manager or the Company.
  • Practice the “Golden Rule” and work with all associates as a team, maintaining a respectful, supportive and team‑oriented (RSTO) style.
Qualifications
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Flexibility to work up to eight (8) hour days Monday through Friday, weekends if scheduled.
  • Ability to operate computers and hand‑held scanning machines.
  • Extremely detail oriented; accuracy and attention to detail are imperative.
  • Proficient in reading, writing and speaking English.
  • Ability to understand and follow English directions.
  • Self‑motivated with strong organizational skills and ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work with people of various backgrounds, personality traits and authority levels to accomplish department and company goals.
  • Successful completion of pre‑employment/promotion drug screen and criminal background check (within company guidelines).
  • Experience working with handhelds and front‑end registers.
  • Sense of urgency and capability to identify and correct problems.
