About

The Role

We are currently seeking a Technician in Science to join our Science department at The Bedford College Group.

Responsibilities
  • Technical Support & Lab Preparation – Provide hands‑on technical support for Science teaching, preparing materials, equipment, and resources for practical sessions and ensuring their effective use in laboratories.
  • Health & Safety Management – Oversee H&S compliance across sites, including risk assessments, COSHH requirements, and safe disposal of laboratory waste in line with regulations.
  • Equipment & Resource Management – Assemble, maintain, distribute, and collect lab equipment and materials, ensuring readiness, cleanliness, and proper storage.
  • Collaboration & Practical Support – Work closely with teaching staff to support practical delivery, provide technical advice, trial experiments, and assist with student project work and events.
  • Professional Development & Compliance – Stay up to date with scientific developments and training, while adhering to safeguarding, EDI, health & safety, and professional standards.
About You
  • Qualifications & Knowledge Base – Level 2 Science qualification (or equivalent) with English and Maths (or willingness), strong understanding of lab procedures, and health & safety practices.
  • Practical & Technical Experience – Experience preparing and delivering science practicals, working in labs or prep rooms, and supporting demonstrations for individuals and small groups.
  • Industry & Educational Experience – Background working in science environments and supporting students/young people, with a focus on customer service and high performance.
  • Interpersonal & Professional Skills – Ability to work effectively with diverse groups, promote equality and inclusion, and communicate clearly while contributing positively to the team.
  • Flexibility & Development Commitment – Willingness to train (e.g. first aid), travel across sites, adapt working hours, and continuously update skills while maintaining strong health & safety awareness.
