How you’ll spend your time as a Mechanical Product Design Engineer:
- Be a key contributor to the R&D team.
- Focus on the design and development of mechanical components and systems for high‑voltage utility products.
- Use Solid Works as the primary CAD tool to create detailed 3D models, assemblies, and 2D production drawings for products and tooling made from thermoplastics and cross‑linked polymers.
- Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to conceptualize innovative solutions.
- Perform design calculations and analyses (e.g., failure modes and effects analysis, FEA simulations via Solid Works).
- Optimize designs for manufacturability in processes like thermoforming and resin casting.
- Iterate designs based on manufacturing feedback.
- Support prototyping with suppliers and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Contribute to the integration of new manufacturing equipment (e.g., robotic trim cells, vertical mills) into the production process.
Skills & experience we'd like you to have as a Mechanical Product Design Engineer:
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or a related field.
- 3+ years of experience in mechanical product design for manufacturing environments.
- Advanced proficiency in Solid Works (3D modeling, assemblies, FEA, and simulation tools).
- Experience designing thermoplastic and cross‑linked polymer manufacturing processes (e.g., thermoforming, casting).
- Knowledge of utility industry standards and safety regulations.
- Strong analytical skills for structural and material performance analysis.
- Ability to collaborate with R&D, manufacturing, and supplier teams.
- Excellent problem‑solving and communication skills.
- Experience with finite element analysis (FEA) and design for manufacturability (DFM) strongly preferred.
