Position: Cashier Team Member (Front End Service) - Part Time

Cashier Team Member (Front End Service) - Part Time

Base pay range: $15.00/hr - $24.40/hr

Provides support as a member of the Customer Service & E‑Commerce team to assist customers during checkout, operate the cash register, bag groceries, and maintain front‑end displays in line with Whole Foods Market’s service vision.

Job Responsibilities
  • Check out customer groceries efficiently and accurately.
  • Uphold government regulations concerning sale of alcoholic beverages and taxation.
  • Follow proper check, ATM, and credit procedures.
  • Use proper tare procedures when ringing up scalable items.
  • Clean and stock front‑end areas, including register, changing tapes and ribbon as necessary.
  • Follow all cash handling procedures and meet regional cashier variance policy.
  • Assist in training new Cashier and Cashier Assistant Team Members.
  • Help control customer flow to reduce wait times.
  • Participate in company programs as directed by leadership.
  • Arrive to workstation on time, appropriately groomed, and attend required trainings and meetings.
  • Provide excellent customer service, address customer needs promptly and courteously, and use suggestive selling techniques.
  • Maximize sales potential through proper product handling, stocking, and merchandising.
  • Comply with Weights & Measures, health and sanitation, and safety procedures.
  • Maintain a clean and sanitary work environment; maintain equipment per WFM standards.
  • Perform opening, mid, and closing duties; ensure accuracy of signs and pricing.
  • Immediately report safety hazards and violations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by store or company leadership.
  • For those hired November 2024 and beyond, cashiers will be assigned shopper training and may be assigned shopper tasks within the Customer Service Team.
Job Skills
  • Demonstrates patience in dealing with customers and Team Members.
  • Maintains proficiency with the Cashier Code Book and PLUs.
  • Strong basic math skills.
  • Strong to excellent communication skills and willingness to work as part of a team.
  • Ability to deliver information clearly and respectfully to fellow Team Members, customers, and vendors.
  • Ability to meet customer service expectations and standards in all interactions.
  • Ability to follow directions and procedures; effective time management and organization skills.
  • Passion for natural foods and the mission of Whole Foods Market.
  • Strong work ethic and ability to work in a fast‑paced environment with a sense of urgency.
  • Understanding of and compliance with WFM quality goals.
  • Strong attention to detail.
Experience
  • No prior retail experience required.
Physical Requirements / Working Conditions
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds.
  • Stand/walk 6‑8 hours in an 8‑hour work day.
  • Hands use: single grasping, fine manipulation, pushing and pulling.
  • Work requires bending, twisting, squatting and reaching.
  • Exposure to FDA approved cleaning chemicals.
  • Exposure to temperatures: 90°F.
  • Ability to work in a wet and cold environment.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.
  • Ability to use tools and equipment, including box cutters, electric pallet jacks, and other heavy machinery.
  • May require use of ladders.
