Welder III
Responsibilities- Determine and install applicable welding materials based on parent metal properties.
- Strike (form) arc to melt line, maintaining length of arc and speed of movement to form specified depth of fusion and bead, judged from color of metal, sound of weld and size of molten puddle.
- Perform minor repair operations including helicoil installation, flushing, grit blasting, vapor degreasing, repairs broken or cracked parts, filling holes, chipping off excess weld, slag and spatter, utilizing basic machining equipment.
- Prepare broken parts for welding by prepping surfaces per standard practices.
- Preheat workpiece with hand torch or heating furnace.
- Position and clamp workpiece together to assemble them in jig or fixture.
- Tack assemblies together.
- Apply filler rod manually to supply weld metal.
- Weld in flat, horizontal, vertical, or overhead positions.
- Examine weld for bead size and other specifications.
- Continuously pursue lean initiative toward process improvements.
- Thorough knowledge of:
- Microsoft Office Basics
- ASW D17.1
- Read and interpret mechanical drawings and blueprints
- Read standard gauges and other measuring devices
- Operate basic machining equipment
- Learn industry‑related software
- Minimum certification to include Material Groups IIa (stainless steel), IV (aluminum), V (magnesium), 4130 (steel) and Inconel.
- Obtain respiratory certification and wear a face respirator.
- Successfully pass annual regulatory vision requirements.
- Must successfully complete Chromium Physical (incomplete but kept as is).
