We are looking for an experienced GP Practice Administrator to join our busy and friendly practice. This is a key role for someone with medical secretary skills and clinical coding experience
, who thrives in a fast-paced environment and enjoys working across multiple administrative areas.

Key Responsibilities:

Provide high-quality medical secretary support to clinicians, including typing correspondence, preparing reports, and managing documentation.

Maintain accurate patient medical records and files.

Undertake clinical coding of diagnoses and procedures.

Coordinate patient appointments, referrals, and clinic schedules efficiently.

Support multiple administrative departments and assist colleagues as needed.

Ensure compliance with data protection, confidentiality, and healthcare regulations.

We are looking for someone who:

Has experience working in a busy GP practice or similar healthcare setting.

Has strong medical secretary skills and clinical coding experience

Is highly organised, able to prioritise tasks, and works accurately under pressure.

Is a team player

Has excellent IT skills (MS Office, email, databases) and strong communication skills.

Hours: Full-time, 45 days per week
Salary: Competitive, based on experience

Job Purpose:To provide professional administrative and secretarial support across a busy GP practice. The role requires flexibility to work across multiple administrative departments, supporting clinicians, staff, and patients while ensuring accurate clinical documentation and coding.

Person Specification Qualifications
  • Experience working in a busy GP practice or similar healthcare environment
  • Strong medical secretary skills, including typing correspondence and preparing clinical documentation
  • Experience with clinical coding of diagnoses and procedures
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills, able to prioritise work in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong IT skills (MS Office, email, databases)
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Professional, flexible, reliable, and a team player
  • Ability to work accurately under pressure
  • Knowledge of GP practice management systems (e.g., EMIS, Systm One)
  • Previous experience in multi-department administrative roles
  • Knowledge of NHS coding standards and procedures
  • Experience supporting clinical audits or reporting
  • Basic understanding of patient confidentiality legislation (GDPR / NHS standards)
