We are seeking a compassionate and motivated Registered Mental Health Nurse to join our Community Mental Health Service in Mendip. This is an exciting opportunity to work within a forward-thinking service that challenges traditional boundaries between primary and secondary care, in collaboration with service users, carers, voluntary sector organisations and community enterprise partners.

As a Registered Mental Health Nurse, you will provide assessment and deliver psychosocial, evidence-based interventions to a caseload of individuals experiencing mental health difficulties. A collaborative and strengths-based approach is at the heart of this role, with a strong emphasis on recovery-focused practice.

The post holder will also contribute to the clinical leadership of the team, providing supervision to colleagues as agreed with the Team Manager, and actively participating in team development, service evaluation and wider partnership working.

Main duties of the job

Provide high-quality assessments and interventions using a recovery and strengths-based model.

Manage a caseload of service users with severe and enduring mental health difficulties.

Establish and maintain therapeutic relationships, delivering evidence-based psychosocial interventions.

Assess risk collaboratively with service users, carers and professionals, ensuring robust risk management and care planning.

Act as a first point of contact for individuals in crisis, providing appropriate interventions and support.

Contribute to team leadership, offering clinical supervision to colleagues and acting as a role model for high standards of practice.

Work in partnership with voluntary sector agencies, GPs, inpatient services, home treatment teams and other community services.

Engage in clinical audit, service evaluation and quality improvement initiatives to support ongoing service development.

Job responsibilities

The Community Mental Health Service supports adults living with severe and enduring mental health difficulties in the community. As a Band 6 Community Mental Health Nurse, you will:

  • Deliver psychosocial, evidence-based interventions, including solution-focused work, motivational interviewing and recovery-focused care.
  • Work proactively with individuals experiencing relapse, using a strengths-based approach to reduce dependency on mental health services.
  • Develop and communicate recovery care plans and risk management plans, ensuring information is shared appropriately with relevant partners.
  • Liaise with a wide range of stakeholders, including voluntary sector partners, primary care, housing providers and safeguarding services, to provide holistic and joined-up care.
