Job Overview
Flame Health Optometry has been instructed to recruit an experienced Optical Advisor or qualified Dispensing Optician for an office-based position in Tunbridge Wells, Kent. Offering £30,000–£40,000 per annum depending on experience, this full-time or part-time role suits a confident optical professional who combines strong clinical understanding with proven sales ability.
About the JobYou will speak with patients and their families by telephone, explain eye test results and clinical recommendations, and guide them toward appropriate optical solutions. The role requires you to translate clinical information into clear, reassuring conversations without overwhelming people with jargon.
You will build rapport, understand individual needs, answer questions, handle objections, and convert suitable conversations into sales while maintaining a high standard of patient care. Working closely with the owner and wider team, you will help provide a seamless experience for families. This is a purely office-based role, with no domiciliary travel required.
About the EmployerOur client is an established domiciliary optical business with 27 years of experience, focused on providing high-quality eye care and supporting families with their optical needs.
The successful candidate will become an important part of a business led by its owner, working alongside an Optical Assistant and contributing to the continued delivery of a personal, supportive service.
The role offers the opportunity to apply optical knowledge and commercial experience within a business where patient conversations and family relationships are central to the service.
What We Are Looking ForYou will need significant optical experience; this position is not suited to someone with only one or two years in the sector. Applications are welcomed from experienced Optical Advisors and qualified Dispensing Opticians with a strong understanding of the clinical side of optics.
You must be able to discuss test results confidently, explain recommendations clearly, and demonstrate proven sales ability alongside genuine commercial awareness. Excellent telephone communication and relationship-building skills are essential, as is the confidence to manage potentially sensitive conversations with families.
The right person will listen carefully, understand customer needs, adapt their approach, and recognize when to educate, reassure, listen, or confidently close a sale. You should be mature, self-directed, commercially aware, and able to take ownership while ensuring the recommended solution is right for the patient.
Who This Role SuitsThis role will suit an experienced optical professional looking for a position that combines clinical knowledge, meaningful patient conversations, and genuine sales responsibility without working on the road.
It is well suited to someone confident, commercially switched-on, and motivated to become a key part of an established business.
Job LocationThe position is based in Tunbridge Wells, Kent.
