Seymour John are partnering with a growing privately owned medium sized multi-divisional client who are seeking a commercially minded Management Accountant. This role will play a key part in delivering accurate management information, analysing product and job costing, and improving operational performance across stock, set up, and service activities. The position is suited to a part-qualified (CIMA/ACCA) candidate or someone qualified by experience (QBE).
This role will work closely with the Head of Finance and other key finance team members as well as key senior stakeholders across the organisation.
- Prepare monthly management accounts with detailed analysis.
- Develop and maintain product and job costing models, including BOM (bill of materials), labour, and overhead allocation.
- Analyse workshop job costing, including time tracking, labour utilisation, recovery rates, and margin by job or service line.
- Maintain cost models, overhead absorption rates, and activity-based costing where applicable.
- Monitor and report on stock movements, stock valuation, wastage, and shrinkage across retail and agricultural inventory.
- Conduct variance analysis (standard vs. actual costs), identifying operational inefficiencies and cost drivers.
- Work closely with operational teams to improve financial understanding and performance.
- Assist in budgeting and forecasting processes, including seasonal trends in agriculture and retail demand planning.
- Maintain fixed asset registers, including plant, machinery, and workshop equipment.
- Ensure accurate accounting for accruals, prepayments, and inventory at period end.
- Support implementation and improvement of ERP/accounting systems, particularly around stock, costing, and job tracking.
- Provide insight and reporting on key KPIs such as gross margin, stock turnover, labour efficiency, and workshop utilisation.
- Assist with audit processes and ensure compliance with accounting standards and internal controls.
- Part-qualified (CIMA/ACCA) or qualified by experience (QBE).
- Strong experience in management accounting within retail, agriculture, or workshop/service environments.
- Proven experience with costing, including BOMs, labour costing, absorption rates and overhead allocation.
- Experience analysing time data, job costing, or workshop/service profitability.
- Good understanding of stock accounting, inventory controls, and valuation methods.
- Strong Excel skills and experience using accounting or ERP systems – power BI, power query, pivots, lookups etc.
- Ability to communicate financial information clearly to non-finance stakeholders.
- Practical, hands-on approach with strong attention to detail.
- Exposure to ERP systems, Ibcos and Sage are desirable.
