A leading Tier 1 Main Contractor is looking to appoint a Senior Design Manager to join its established team in Welwyn Garden City. You'll play a key role in the successful delivery of complex projects, taking ownership of the design process from tender stage through to project completion. The Role As Senior Design Manager, you will lead the design process across both tenders and live construction projects, ensuring designs are coordinated, compliant, buildable and aligned with programme and commercial objectives. Working closely with clients, consultants, subcontractors, statutory authorities and internal project teams, you will ensure the successful delivery of coordinated and cost-effective design solutions.

Key responsibilities include:

Managing design resources during bid and project delivery stages Leading and coordinating design through all RIBA stages Developing and implementing project design strategies Providing a comprehensive design management service to clients and project teams Chairing design reviews, workshops and coordination meetings Challenging design briefs and identifying opportunities for innovation and value engineering Managing consultants and specialist designers to deliver integrated solutions Ensuring compliance with company procedures, statutory requirements and client specifications Maintaining adherence to design briefs, scopes of service and programme requirements Managing design risk and resolving technical challenges throughout the project lifecycle Supporting pre-construction activities, including single-stage and two-stage tender opportunities Ensuring design outputs support construction methodology, cost targets and programme objectives About You We're looking for an experienced Design Manager or Senior Design Manager with a proven track record delivering Healthcare projects for a Tier 1 or Tier 2 Main Contractor.

You'll also possess:
Strong main contracting experience Previous experience delivering Healthcare and Education projects Excellent knowledge of construction design management principles Experience coordinating multidisciplinary consultant teams Strong understanding of the RIBA Plan of Work Experience managing both single-stage and two-stage tenders HNC, HND, Degree or equivalent construction-related qualification Professional membership (desirable) Strong leadership, communication and stakeholder management skills A proactive and collaborative approach to project delivery About the Company This established Tier 1 Main Contractor has built an excellent reputation for delivering complex Healthcare, Education and public sector projects across the UK.
